Grant Long
Head Coach

Guyer Head Coach Grant Long enters his 19th season at Guyer and 21st coaching high school basketball. This is his 13th year as the head coach for Guyer in which they have made the playoffs every year except one, while winning ten out of thirteen district titles.  Coach Long is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where he earned a degree in sports management and business.  He has his master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University.

After graduating from Texas A&M, Coach Long landed his first job as the assistant varsity basketball coach in Sealy, TX in which the Tigers won a district championship and made it to the Area Playoff Round.  After just one season, Coach Long took over as the 4A high school head coach of the Sealy Tigers.  With a family move on the horizon, Coach Long found an opening as the varsity assistant coach at a brand new Guyer High School.  He helped build the program from the ground up and has gotten to see it flourish. 

Long is currently the head coach of 6A Guyer High School.  Over the last 13 years since taking over as head coach, the wildcats have a record of 354 wins and 119 losses, have 10 district titles, 3 regional finals appearances, 1 State Championship, and made the playoffs in every season, but one.  In that time, the Wildcats have been ranked #1 or #2 in the 6A state rankings on numerous occasions, won the prestigious Whataburger basketball tournament in 2016-2017, have won the most games in school history in 2017-2018 (38), been ranked #1 in the nation by maxpreps in 2017-2018, and made consistent deep playoff runs.  They are the 2025 6A D2 State Champions!  The Wildcats have produced high major players that have gone on to play at Kansas, Texas Tech, Georgia, TCU, Oklahoma, UC San Diego, Grand Canyon, and Georgetown.  They have three pros in Jalen Wilson (Brooklyn Nets), De’vion Harmon (Indiana Pacer G League), and Le’tre Darthard (Overseas).

Coach Long has a twin boy and girl, Bennett and Harper, which are eleven years old.


Aaron Roberts
Varsity Assistant Coach

Coach Roberts is in his fourteenth year of coaching and fourth year at Guyer High School.  He served as the Head Coach at Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas before coming to Guyer.  He played collegiate basketball at Austin College and Odessa College, while earning his degree from Austin College in Mathematics.  He is married to his wife Cyndy, and they have two kids, Jake and Kennedy.

Brian Linn
Junior Varsity Coach

Coach Linn is in 23rd year of coaching and his third year at Guyer High School. He has a Bachelor's degree in Organizational Leadership from Southern Nazarene University. He played collegiate soccer at Oral Roberts University and the University of Houston. He is married to his wife Lezlie, and has two kids, Tori and Blake. At Guyer, Coach Linn teaches Modified Economics/Government, Modified US History, Modified World History, and Modified World Geography.

 

 

 


Michael Heineck
Freshman Coach

Coach Heineck enters his 1st season at Guyer and 8th season coaching High School Basketball. Before coming to Guyer coach Heineck spent time at Krum, Denton, And Grapevine high schools. Coach Heineck is from the area having played and attended Flower Mound High School and graduated from the University of North Texas earning a degree in History.

He is married to his wife Liana and has two children, Savannah and Hudson.
