Guyer Head Coach Grant Long enters his 12th season at Guyer and 14th coaching high school basketball. Coach Long is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where he earned a degree in sports management and business. He has his master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University.
After graduating from Texas A&M, Coach Long landed his first job as the assistant varsity basketball coach in Sealy, TX in which the Tigers won a district championship and made it to the Area Playoff Round. After just one season, Coach Long took over as the 4A high school head coach of the Sealy Tigers. With a family move on the horizon, Coach Long found an opening as the varsity assistant coach at a brand new Guyer High School. He helped build the program from the ground up and has gotten to see it flourish.
Long is currently the head coach of 6A Guyer High School. Over the last 6 years since taking over as head coach, the wildcats have a record of 160 wins and 40 losses, have 5 district titles, and made the playoffs in every season. In that time, the Wildcats have been ranked #1 or #2 in the 6A state rankings on numerous occasions, won the prestigious Whataburger basketball tournament in 2016-2017, have won the most games in school history in 2017-2018 (38), been ranked #1 in the nation by maxpreps in 2017-2018, and made their deepest playoff run to the Regional Finals.
Coach Long has been married to his wife Shelley for 15 years. She owns her own business as a Psychologist. They have a twin boy and girl, Bennett and Harper, which are four years old.
Varsity Assistant Coach
Mansour Khoury has coached basketball ten years at Guyer High School. Coach Khoury attended the University of North Texas where he earned his degree in Business Administration. While attending College, Khoury was part of the Liberty Christian High School Boys’ Varsity Basketball staff. After graduation, he spent two years at the Collegiate level at Richland College and Grayson College. Coach Khoury is married to his wife Casey who teaches at Crownover middle school, and has a baby girl, Mila who is one year.
Junior Varsity Coach
Coach Eddy has coached basketball seven years at Guyer High School. He played collegiate basketball at Hendrix College, LeTourneau University, and Phillips University. He later played professionally in Iceland and Australia. Eddy has coached and taught for 17 years, including three years overseas in Europe and Australia. He earned his master’s from the University of North Texas in Secondary Education. He is married to his wife Kelli, and has two kids, Carter and Caroline.
Coach Roberts is in his twelve year of coaching and fourth year at Guyer High School. He served as the Head Coach at Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas before coming to Guyer. He played collegiate basketball at Austin College and Odessa College, while earning his degree from Austin College in Mathematics. He is married to his wife Cyndy, and they have two kids, Jake and Kennedy.
